Easter Activities 2
A few more interesting finds from the web and some more recommendations from me:
Things to do:
Book Recommendation:
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien - A genuine classic. The precursor to the Lord of the Rings series, The Hobbit tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit with a very comfortable life, who is recruited by the wizard Gandalf and joins a crew of dwarves as they attempt to take their ancestral home back from a powerful dragon. Adapted into a series of films recently, I beg any fans of the movies to give the book a go. There are plenty of places to read it online for free! https://novels77.com/242600-the-hobbit.html
Film Recommendation:
A Monster Calls - Starring Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, and Felicity Jones, A Monster Calls tells the story of a young boy dealing with his mother's terminal illness and his relationship with a giant, monstrous, talking tree. Written by Patrick Ness, who wrote the original novel, this is a great family film which is currently free to watch on the iPlayer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000h4jj/a-monster-calls
Things to do:
- David Walliams is uploading free audiobooks every day to his website. I know from experience that a lot of my students absolutely love Walliams' work so this could be a great way of introducing students who don't read too much to his stories. https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/
- Illustrator Rob Biddulph is offering free tutorials on his website. Any kids interested in art/illustration might love this. http://www.robbiddulph.com/draw-with-rob
- Make your own playdough with this easy, no-cook recipe. All you need is flour, salt, water, and some optional food colouring/washable paint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAIAm6BF0fs
- The Foyle Young Poets of the Year award is still running for any budding poets out there. The deadline isn't until July, so you've got plenty of time to enter! https://poetrysociety.org.uk/competitions/foyle-young-poets-of-the-year-award/
